Overview

The Lightbox feature allows visitors to open a full-size version of a reduced-size image without leaving the current page. The name is borrowed from a device used in photography for viewing slides and other translucent films. The Lightbox feature is part of the Exhibit Gallery User Item and is an option for the Image Gallery and Picture User Items. Second Site also adds Lightbox controls when it embeds a reduced-size exhibit image on a page.

The Lightbox is only available if Javascript is enabled in the visitor's browser.

Image Icons

When the Lightbox feature is available, the reduced-size images include the following icons:

IconDescription
Opens the full-size image in the lightbox.
Opens the page associated with a gallery thumbnail image.

The icon colors vary based on the colors defined in the current Theme. See the Icon Controls page for more information.

Lightbox Navigation

When a full-size image is opened in the Lightbox, the display includes navigation icons as follows:

The left and right arrows move to the previous and next images, respectively, and the "X" icon closes the lightbox. The left and right arrows are only available in Exhibit Galleries and Image Galleries.

In browsers that do not support the CSS border-radius property, such as Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8, the navigation icons use square corners:
